About the Healing Minds – Restoring Hope through Mental Health
Support mental health, change lives.
The Healing Minds project was created to restore strength, confidence, and hope. Through community awareness, individual and group therapy, and family visits, the program helps beneficiaries break free from loneliness and regain their place in society. A young mother once said after her first session: “It was the first time someone really listened to me. I no longer feel completely alone.”
By visiting homes, meeting families, and opening safe spaces for dialogue, Healing Minds tackles not only trauma but also the daily stresses that weigh on families. Every conversation, every listening ear, every follow-up session is a step toward restoring dignity.
Though the project faced a sudden funding interruption in May 2025, its impact was already visible: children smiling again, mothers finding confidence, widows rebuilding ties, and orphans daring to hope. With renewed support, Healing Minds will continue to transform lives and remind communities that no one should carry their pain alone.

Building Capacity to Heal Minds
At Munyundo Foundation, we believe that mental health is for everyone. As part of the Healing Minds, Transforming Lives project, all our volunteers including two psychologists took part in a special capacity-building workshop led by consultant Alexis.
He reminded us that true listening is an act of healing: to hear attentively, to speak with care, and to avoid transferring our own struggles onto others. Inspired by this, our team began practicing listening sessions among colleagues.
This training has not only strengthened our team but also transformed the way we serve our beneficiaries. Today, every session we lead carries the lesson that healing begins with listening, and even caregivers need care.
“For the first time, I realized that listening deeply is also a way of healing.” One of the team members said.

Euphemie Nizigiyimana – A Young Mother’s Determination
“I cannot be absent in such sessions… There is no reason to go out and look for money if my mind is not healthy.”
Euphemie, a young mother, chose to prioritize therapy above all else. For her, mental health became the foundation for rebuilding her life and family.

Claudette Kajeneza – A Burden Lifted
“It was like a burden falling off my shoulders. I started to sleep well, whereas before it was always a struggle.”

Mugisha Sandrine – Finding Her Voice
“This is the first time I have fully expressed myself without omitting or adding anything. You listened to me in a trusting environment.”
For Sandrine, therapy was the first space where she could speak freely and be truly heard. It was a step toward healing and self-confidence.

Denise Miburo – Transformation Through Therapy
The Kitchen Lunch brings families together , children smiling with excitement, parents sharing a moment of rest, and the elderly finding comfort in companionship. Around these tables, everyone is equal, everyone belongs, and everyone enjoys a warm meal filled with love and dignity. These gatherings are more than food; they are moments of joy, unity, and hope for the future.

Anitha Nimpagaritse – The Value of Being Remembered
“It is a grace in our household. Even though we could not welcome you well, your visit made us feel valued, as if we still have a family that remembers us.”
Through a simple household visit, Anitha and her family felt dignity restored. The feeling of being remembered became as powerful as the therapy itself.
