We believe a warm meal can restore dignity.

About the Baho Witeho Abandi – Living for the Sake of Others

School Kits, Meals, and Hope for Burundi’s Children

In Burundi, many children go to school without essential supplies and sometimes on an empty stomach. This reality not only jeopardizes their academic success but also robs families of dignity and hope.

To respond, the Munyundo Foundation launched Baho Witeho Abandi / “Living for the Sake of Others”, a program that provides holistic support to children and their families. Education is a fundamental right, yet too many Burundian children are excluded because of poverty and . Through this initiative, children receive school supplies, shoes, uniforms, and, for girls, sanitary pads, along with academic follow-up hunger and tutoring when needed. Families also receive home visits to ensure sustainable and harmonious support within their daily lives.

Hunger is another barrier to dignity and learning. That is why the program also organizes a Kitchen Lunch every month, offering a warm meal and a moment of joy to children, widows, and elderly people. Around these meals, families rediscover community, laughter, and hope.

BahoWiteho Abandi is more than aid , it is a chance to restore hope, dignity, and opportunity. Every notebook, every meal, every act of kindness is a seed of change that transforms lives. Together, we can ensure that no child goes to school on an empty stomach and no family loses its dignity.

Your gift transforms lives.

Euphemie Nizigiyimana remembers the day she was evicted from her home, holding her baby and unsure of where to go. The Foundation stepped in to pay her rent and provide food for her children.

“I am very grateful to the Foundation that helped me by paying my house rent and also provided me with some food to feed my children. For me, it was not just help, but a lifeline that gave me stability and dignity again.”

The value of household visits

During our visits to the beneficiaries, a deep sense of joy and gratitude always emerges. These moments of closeness remind families that they are not alone in their struggles, but surrounded by genuine support. Anitha Ndereyimana, a parent, expressed with emotion:

“We are very happy when you come to visit us; we feel that we have a good family that cares for us and supports us.”

Notebooks that Carry Hope

For many children in Burundi, the absence of simple school supplies is enough to block their path to education. Without a notebook to write in, or a pen to take notes, lessons slip away and dreams fade. Through the Baho WitehoAbandi program, the Munyundo Foundation distributes school materials so that every child can step into the classroom with dignity and confidence.

One young student shared with a smile, “Now I can take notes like the other children. I feel ready to learn.” These small notebooks are more than pages , they are seeds of knowledge and hope for a brighter future.

The Joy of Kitchen Lunch

The Kitchen Lunch brings families together , children smiling with excitement, parents sharing a moment of rest, and the elderly finding comfort in companionship. Around these tables, everyone is equal, everyone belongs, and everyone enjoys a warm meal filled with love and dignity. These gatherings are more than food; they are moments of joy, unity, and hope for the future.
